Fruit trifle

'Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year'

What are your New Year's resolutions? Do you ever make any?
Setting the resolution might be easy, sticking to them can be challenging..
This year I have already set my resolutions and I'm pretty determined to stick to them.. This new year I have set not one but 5 resolutions which are..

Call me stupid for sharing the resolutions publicly but I kind of feel motivated.. How do u guys stick to your resolutions? Kindly share your secret!!

Alrighty..

Let's start this New Year on a sweet note..

We absolutely love jelly custard and it has become a regular thing at home..So thought 'll take it up a notch by adding up more layers to create this beautiful trifle. If you're looking for a light, delicious dessert options, this is the one for you! You can build as many layers as you want, I went with 6 layers.. You can either stack the layers of fruits, jelly, custard in a trifle bowl or serve in  individual glasses(single serve desserts are the best, ain't they?)

Typically, a trifle glass is stacked with fruits, jelly, custard, cookie crumble, sponge cake, whipping cream the options are endless.. Here's how I made it!
Ingredients (makes 3-4 glasses)
  1. Cookies-8, crumbled
  2. Fruits- I used 10 strawberries and half an apple
  3. a packet of jelly(I used orange)
  4. Water- 1 1/2 cup
  5. Custard powder- 3 tbsp
  6. Milk- 3 cups
  7. Sugar- 6 tbsp
Method
  • Layer 1 - Crumble the cookie and place them in the glasses and even it out.
  • Layer 2 - Arrange the strawberries over Layer 1
  • Layer 3 - For custard, Take 1/2 cup of milk, mix it with custard powder and sugar without any lumps until both gets dissolved completely. Keep aside. Heat the remaining milk, when it starts to boil. Add the custard mixture to the milk and keep stirring continuously to avoid lumps and burning of the mixture. When it starts to thicken switch off the flame and allow it to cool down.
Once it cools, pour some over the strawberry layer.
  • Layer 4 - For jelly.. Heat 1 1/2 cups of water, when it boils add the jelly crystals and stir vigorously until the crystals are dissolved completely.switch off the flame and pour the mixture into a bowl and let it set. Refrigerate it and cut it place it over custard layer.
  • Layer 5- Arrange the apple chunks over jelly/jello layer
  • Layer 6- Pour some more custard over the apple layer
  • Finally top it with fruits, nut or chocolate shavings
That's it, No biggie!!

What I love about this recipe(?) is you can change the fillers to suit you or the folks you're creating it for.. options are truly endless!
