DIY Wall Art- using perfume/shoe box lid

Hey guys, long time no crafts!!
I know, I know!! But here we are with a great idea to upcycle your shoebox/perfume box lid.
I'm sure you all have plenty of spare shoeboxes lying in the closet, get them out let's give them a beautiful makeover.. If you don't have any, what you waiting for?
Time for new pair of shoes or a  perfume ;)

Isn't it great to reuse these boxes/lids, give them a new life and spruce up the bland walls with these inexpensive custom wall art? We have a couple of canvases hanging on the wall and this one looks almost like one of those. Looks great, if I may say so myself *smug face*

You'll need a box/lid which has a neat finish, sturdy and looks best if the edges are canvas-alike, say around 1 inch(refer pic)

Here's what you'll need :

  1. shoe/perfume box lid
  2. a photo of your choice/ old calender sheets/ fabric/decorative paper
  3. glue/mod podge
  4. scissors
  5. paint/duct tape (to cover the edges)
How to :
  • Start by the cutting the photo (or calender sheet or fabric whichever you are using) large enough to cover the lid.
  • Apply the glue on top of the lid and place the photo, smoothing out the bubbles and wrinkles.
  • For the edges, you can either paint them with the suitable color, or I just happen to have matching duct tape. I just had to stick it all over the edges.
  • Since it's really light weight, I just hung it using the board pin.. That's it.. You're all set!
Now, what I made with the perfume box is another story for another time.. I promise I won't keep you waiting..

DIY Travel Wallet

Hey y’all! I always keep my promises and so, as promised in my last DIY (No-Sew Clutch), here is the tutorial of the DIY travel wallet.

I made this for my mom and she found it really handy while travelling from US to India. Do you know that US-India is one of the most exhaustive and tiring travel? Oh yea, it takes almost 20 hours with one transit in between!Okay, that is totally a different story. So let me get back to the wallet. You can use this to hold your passport, boarding pass and urgent cash/card/IDs and the best part is it is water-proof!

So,what are you waiting for? Let’s get started!

DIY No Sew Clutch

Sigh! I know I should not be beginning a blog post with a sigh. But hey, my parents left back home (India) after their two months of vacation in US and it is not even a week but I miss them already. So the sigh!!

Apart from the regular gifts for friends and family, I wanted to make my own gift to my mom, sister and mom in law. With all the travelling and tourism, I was left with very little time to make something nice for them. So it may not be anything extravagant but it was made with heaps and heaps of love! That is all that matters, right? Right!!

A travel case for my mom to keep her passport, boarding pass and money safe and handy during the travel.

A simple clutch for my darling sister and mom in law!

I will be sharing the tutorial of the travel case shortly. Meanwhile, here is the tutorial for the clutch.

No Sew Throw Pillow

"Cozy nights and lazy mornings...
          Comfy sweaters and trendy scarves…
 Skinny jeans and fall boots…
 Hot chocolates and classic books…

 Candles and pumpkins…
 Halloween and lanterns…
Pretty leaves and driving around just to see the trees…
Fall is everything so beautiful and sweet…

Hey fall, I am so ready for you !!"

Can you tell how excited I am for fall already!
If you are friends with me on Instagram, you would know how crazy excited I am.

Like the dollar store haul and the laptop make over –

OR the fall leaves on my window blinds…

I am really pumped up for fall this year and can’t wait to make my home all cozy and warm. Just another reason to feel lazy, right? Fall kind of makes laziness official!

Here is a simple…really simple DIY to make your own throw pillows that hardly takes 10 minutes. It is not necessarily for fall. You can make it any themed or even use your old shirts. But I am on my ‘fall overload’ pills, so I just want to make it the ‘fall’ way!

Bangles/Bracelets Holder

Hello DIYers….! It has been a while since I posted something ‘crafty’! I was found to be too ‘craftaholic’ that I was actually on my road to recovery. But then, took a U-turn to the nearest craft store for an extraordinary DIY just for you guys!

Who am I kidding! I have been little preoccupied with few other things lately and was forced to put 'crafts/DIY projects' to the back burner!

But my craftaholic hands was itching for something… well, crafty!

It may not be an extraordinary project as mentioned earlier, but a simple yet extremely useful DIY and without a doubt... made just for you!

It is similar to the desk organizer that I posted a while ago!

Yes, we are using empty tissue rolls again! But this time, to organize bangles, bracelets, hair ties and make up brushes!

Upcycled Wine Bottles

If you'are anything like me, you're always thinking of ways to add that 'little something' to your living room. We can't always afford to buy that 'little something' from pottery barn or anthropologie.
Why not make your own centerpiece? which is easy, inexpensive and most importantly personalized.

You can customize it completely with your favorite colors and designs. So, what are you waiting for?
Go grab those empty wine bottles and lets have some fun.

Necklace/Chain Holder

My jewelry organization has always been a shameful mess but definitely not in the recent times. If you had read my DIY Desk organizer post, you would know that my 2014 resolution is just better organization practices. My dangling earrings were saved by this earrings holder project. And now, it is the turn of chains/necklaces for rescue.

I used to store all my necklaces and chains in a jewelry box, which was just not functional. The long chains gets all tangled up that it gets too difficult to untangle. If you are anything like me, you’d rather spend your time on a DIY project for a chain organizer than spend time untangling them.

And so here it is – the most functional way to store your chains/necklaces and I promise you, it’s going to be just a shoestring budget.

DIY Personalized Fridge Magnets

Hello All ! Guess who's back after a long, blissful break where I ate lavish amounts of food and had copious amounts of fun.

So,earlier this week when I was loading  my pantry and refrigerator, found couple of promotional fridge magnets that have been given by companies. You know I can't throw away scraps, and you know how we love to re-create something nice out of these scraps like our Desk Organizer using tissue rolls, earrings holder using a photo frame.

Speaking of fridge magnets, my husband likes to have  a huge collection of them. So I thought why not give these dull babies a jazzy make over. These can be done in a  jiffy and that too with the things found around the house. These are kids friendly hence would make a great gift for father's day.

Jewelry Holder

When was the last time you went to your local ‘Dollar store’? Are you not a fan of ‘Dollar store’?  C’mon, you got to be kidding me! You pick any product and it cost you just a $1 ! What more do you need ! Hm, I admit I have always had doubts on the quality of the product!  You know, we tend to complain when the price of the product is too high; and doubt when it is too less!! I totally get it ! But believe me, if you love to craft, you would love ‘Dollar Store! I would say, it is one of the many places where inspirations are born.

There have been many times when I would go to ‘Dollar store’ for no specific reason at all. But as I walk around the aisles, I get lost amidst all the cute things lying around which would then wake the creative devil in me. All the 'pins' I would have pinned on Pinterest, all the DIY videos I would have watched on YouTube flash in a moment and finally I will end up with a bag of purchase which I will never have regrets for!

My last purchase included these :

And I made this....

DIY Desk Organizer

Does your desk look like a crime scene or like it has been ransacked? My desk always looks like one and I am definitely not proud of it. I cannot say I am totally a messy person but yes; I can definitely be better organized which is in fact my New Year 2014 resolution. An organized home doesn’t exactly be a picture perfect home and clutter is definitely not a character defect. If only organizing our home was as easy as pinning the organization ideas and tips on Pinterest to our boards... Sigh :( :( ! So let us start with simple organizing ideas which could collectively make a huge difference. Last week, I had posted a simple earring organizer which I am glad many of you liked. Thanks for all the sweet responses which made me come up with the desk organizer for this week. Are you ready? Here we go...

Earrings Holder

I am sure many of you will join hands with me when it comes to earrings love. I always feel that a matching earring is the 'cherry on top' to any outfit. Now that we have a reason for our love, the question is, how do you organize them? I used to keep all my earrings in a jewelry box which becomes messy in few days. Right when I think, an earring would go perfect with my outfit, I would realize one of them is missing or entangled with another or lets just say - gets too difficult to figure where it is.

I came across this simple DIY project on Pinterest and just because the same idea was pinned by so many out there, it motivated me further to give it a try. So this is for all of you who have not read about it already. This organizer is specific to dangling earrings. I will come up with another organizer for studs when it works best for me.

Bag from Tank top (No sew,No cut) in 2 mins !!

I often look at my tank tops and wonder if I could make a bag out of it. I have them in different colors and patterns that I think would make a lovely bag. But I always fear I would damage the top and make it no longer wearable.

One afternoon, I finally made the bag and guess what, it involves no cutting of fabric or sewing. And the good news is, you can use them as both bag and top.

DIY Painted Tote

Ranjani is traveling to India next week (Lucky!) and she said she has little space left in her suitcase! (unfortunately I can't fit in ). I planned to send something from my DIY collection for my Mom and MIL. Something about Fall makes me want to decorate tote bags. I found a pair of plain tote bags in my craft bag. I thought a hand painted tote would be a perfect little gift and this trendy bag will have them saying "no thanks" to plastic bags. So if you want to decorate a tote bag and go green, I am here to help you.
